October 15-18 Story Hours

This week was all about patterns!

Literacy/Developmental Skill: Noticing patterns and relationships between objects is an aspect of mathematical thinking that children will use when they learn math in school.

We read some great books about size and relationships between the sizes of different animals. It's all about perspective!

This week, our Wiggle Worms got to work with color patterns as they made their pattern caterpillars! Want to make your own? Here is what they look like:

What you need:

pom poms
craft sticks
markers
glue

Simply color circles on the stick in a pattern, and have your little one match the color of pom poms to the colors on the stick and glue them on. Enjoy!

In Preschool Story Hour, we also read:

This week in Preschool Story Hour, we played with tangrams to match our shapes and colors to some great patterns.  At the end, the kids were able to design their own patterns!

Last week, in Preschool Story Hour, we had the kids use their imagination to make an undersea and city play area for our free play time.  They did amazing--and they asked to get them back out this week to play! I think we've created a weekly activity!
